If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that G recently had knee surgery after over a year of having problems– this meant no couple hiking! That means that after a year of wanting to rip each other’s eye balls out being stuck inside, when we finally were able to venture to Tonto Natural Bridge for G’s first hike back a couple of weeks ago, we were psyched.
Tonto Natural Bridge lies 10 miles north of Payson, Arizona and is home to the largest natural tavertine bridge in the world. It was gorgeous. I’d go as far as to say one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been. There are four different trails you can take and we tried all four– but beware, the Anna Mae trail probably isn’t the best for young children or people who don’t dig the whole climbing on rocks/muddling through rivers type of thing. However, we loved it so I highly recommend it!
If you take one trail, take the Gowan! This is where we were bestowed with the most lovely views, photograph opportunities + even a sweet Canadian couple. You don’t want to miss this!
- There’s a fee so don’t forget your cash! $2.00 for children 13 and younger and $5 for 14 and up.
- Bring water!
- If you’re going to hike the Anna Mae trail I highly recommend bringing hiking shoes.
