Tonto Natural Bridge

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that G recently had knee surgery after over a year of having problems– this meant no couple hiking! That means that after a year of wanting to rip each other’s eye balls out being stuck inside, when we finally were able to venture to Tonto Natural Bridge for G’s first hike back a couple of weeks ago, we were psyched.

Tonto Natural Bridge lies 10 miles north of Payson, Arizona and is home to the largest natural tavertine bridge in the world. It was gorgeous. I’d go as far as to say one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been. There are four different trails you can take and we tried all four– but beware, the Anna Mae trail probably isn’t the best for young children or people who don’t dig the whole climbing on rocks/muddling through rivers type of thing. However, we loved it so I highly recommend it!

If you take one trail, take the Gowan! This is where we were bestowed with the most lovely views, photograph opportunities + even a sweet Canadian couple. ;) You don’t want to miss this!

Tips:

  • There’s a fee so don’t forget your cash! $2.00 for children 13 and younger and $5 for 14 and up.
  • Bring water!
  • If you’re going to hike the Anna Mae trail I highly recommend bringing hiking shoes.

Do you like to hike? Where are your favorite trails?

Ahh we’ve been trying to find a place to hike that was actually accessible with a sedan. Must go here!

Yes, you MUST! The windy road down can be a bit discerning but it was well worth it!

I LOVE the natural bridge!! I went a few years ago and fell in love! I’ve been wanting to go back soon!!

Me and my boyfriend love to find new hiking trails too. Maybe one day if we fly west, we’ll visit that one! I’m afraid I might need my knee looked out too. I don’t even want to think about not being a dl to hike for a year! Lol

If you ever visit the West I highly recommend it, Kristen! :) As for your knee, it totally stinks for sure but his actually got worse because he put it off for so long (he’s a Marine + wanted to go to certain things) Maybe PT would be the only thing needed :) Good luck!

Looks like a wonderful day! I too go NUTS if I can’t get outside, so I completely understand your enthusiasm! My favorite hike is McAfee’s Knob in Southwest Virginia, though I did just go on a wonderful hike here in Germany in the Black Forest. :)
